Active Release Technique (ART)

ART is a soft tissue system/movement based technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, fascia, and nerves. ART works very well for clients who enjoy sports which require repetitive movement (eg. golf, ironman, tennis, etc);  and for clients who are required to maintain sustained postures such as sitting in an office.

Acupuncture One Wellness

Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Acupuncture is a therapeutic method used by specially trained physiotherapists who have a Certificate from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada (CAFCI). Acupuncture is used to naturally promote healing, relieve pain, and improve function of affected areas of the body by improving flow of Qi (pronounced Chee). Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of very fine single-use disposable needles through the skin and soft tissue at specific acupuncture points on the body. The needles are often left in for 10-15 minutes to have an optimal effect. Our therapists primarily perform ‘Anatomical Acupuncture’ which is a more modern approach combining centurys old Chinese traditions and western medical knowledge to increase effectiveness. We also use dry needling techniques to stimulate release of spasm and trigger points thereby improving muscle function.

Biomechanical Evaluations and
Exercise Programs

For Medical Conditions and Post-Clinical Therapy

This service bridges the gap between the completion of physiotherapy and the initiation of an exercise program in a gym setting. This works well for those that need a little extra help to get back to full strength and fitness at the end of clinical physical rehabilitation following injury or surgery. It also helps those who have a medical condition such as arthritis or low back pain and need help establishing an exercise program. We assess your current strength, flexibility, proprioception and biomechanics, paying special attention to any areas affected by your injury or medical condition. We work closely with the professional trainers at Life Works Gym and The Banff Centre to establish an individual exercise program. This may include one-on-one or group training at the gym, a home exercise program, and advice on appropriate exercise classes available in the community. We regularly monitor and modify your program to suit your needs.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a very gentle manual therapy technique that manipulates the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) which is a fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. The therapist applies soft touch to assess the movement of cerebrospinal fluid, which can be restricted by trauma to the body such as through falls, accidents, and repetitive motions. This is a whole-body therapy involving subtle movements of the spinal and cranial bones in an attempt to bring the central nervous system into harmony and naturally restoring the craniosacral rhythm. By lightly working the spine, skull, and its cranial sutures the restrictions of nerve passages are said to be eased. The movement of CSF through the spinal cord and the entire body can then be optimized. Craniosacral therapists (CST) use the therapy to treat any condition that has plateaued, which can include neck and back pain, migraines, TMJ pain, and chronic pain conditions.

One Wellness Foot Treatment

Custom Foot Orthotics

Custom foot orthotics are individualized inserts for your shoes that can help to alleviate foot, knee, hip, and low back pain. Orthotics are designed to correct malalignments in the body and reduce the strain on pain-sensitive soft-tissue. At One Wellness Physiotherapy the therapists discuss any past or current injuries and thoroughly analyze your work and athletic footwear. They then perform gait and functional analyses including watching you walk, run, squat, etc. A cast mold of your foot is then taken. Our pedorthist Milan Hudec, C.Ped(C), C.Ped.Tech(C) of Feet First Orthotics then handcrafts the orthotics right here in the Bow Valley. We offer a 100% guarantee that the orthotics fit well, help to improve your alignment and help manage your injuries. Any adjustments we may need to make incur no extra cost to you.

IMS health One Wellness and Spa

Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)

IMS is a dry needling technique aimed at reducing muscle tension and spasm that may be causing pain or dysfunction in an affected area. As a result of acute or prolonged repetitive trauma, nerves can become sensitized. Previously harmless signals become exaggerated, causing the muscles they supply to shorten. These shortened muscles in turn cause pain by pulling on tendons, compressing joints, and compressing nerves. This pain then causes further muscle shortening. During an IMS treatment, the therapist will insert fine acupuncture needles into the tight bands of shortened muscles to evoke a reflex relaxation response in the muscles. When the muscles relax, pressure is reduced on muscle tendons, joints, and the nerves. During this relaxation the nerves return to having an ideal level of sensitivity, enabling the body to heal.

Manual therapy is a broad term that encompasses the treatment of injuries through ‘hands-on’ techniques including soft tissue mobilization, connective tissue techniques, myofascial release, craniosacral techniques, mobilization of nerve tissue, and joint mobilization and manipulation. Some of our physiotherapists have been awarded the Diploma of Manipulative Therapy (FCAMT) after extensive post-graduate training and examination. Neck Pain at office

Office Ergonomic Assessments

Office ergonomic assessments examine your office set up and the way in which you work. In treating clients with neck, back, arm and leg pain One Wellness Physiotherapy has found that it is sometimes not enough to just treat the injury using massage and physiotherapy techniques; but requires getting to the source of the problem which can require assessing your office environment. This assessment includes a review of your personal areas of discomfort, an analysis of your office set up, suggestions and implementation of changes, and a follow up report of recommendations. Remember, having a proper office setup helps to improve job satisfaction, productivity, and to reduce repetitive stress injuries.

Spinal Stabilization Program –
 “Build Your Core”

Having a strong core often results in a stable spine and pelvic relationship. Core muscles are a group of muscles located deep in the trunk that play an essential role in stabilizing your low back as it connects to your pelvis. In this program you will learn where each of these muscles are, what their role is, how to activate these muscles, and how to incorporate using theses muscles into your daily life whether you are sitting at your desk, out for a walk, or working out at the gym. This is a great program for those who have lower back pain or a history of lower back pain, want to improve their balance, start pilates or yoga, or just get fit!

Sports at One Wellness

Sports Fitness Assessment

This is a great assessment for those that are looking to start a new sport, or improve at their current sport. This assessment analyzes the specific demands of the sport, assessing current strength, flexibility, proprioceptive control and biomechanics. The therapists at One Wellness Physiotherapy participate and compete in many different sports themselves, (including running, cross country skiing, down hill skiing, triathlons, road and mountain biking), and therefore add an athlete’s perspective to their professional knowledge and skill. As you know many sports are repetitive in nature. At One Wellness Physiotherapy the therapists integrate competing parts of the body to work in harmony and teach you sport specific strategies that address the weaknesses, tightnesses, and overall imbalances in your body such that you remain in top of your gaim and achieve your ultimate goals.
Jaws

Temporal Mandibular
Joint Therapy - Jaw Pain

Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) treatment involves examining all areas and all tissues which can contribute to problems (including pain, spasm and clicking) in the jaw. We analyze factors which can lead to injury such as poor postural and movement habits, car accidents or other head and neck trauma, teeth grinding, and eating habits. We examine your neck, upper back, skull, and shoulder girdle for movement restrictions due to factors such as joint stiffness, muscle spasm, nerve tightness, weakness, etc. We work closely with your dentist to understand and address any relevant dental issues. Treatment may involve mobilization of the jaw and spine, soft tissue release, acupuncture, biomechanical correction, and a comprehensive educational and exercise program.
Thermal

These modalities include: ultrasound, transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS), electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), electro-acupuncture, interferential current (IFC), heat and ice.
